Planning for the year ahead
As Term 4 gets underway, educators who are looking to prepare for next year will find help and guidance in The Healing Foundation’s updated Stolen Generations’ Schools Resource Kit, created to educate young people about the history of the Stolen Generations.
Having just been launched, this resource kit will be a huge help to educators – teachers, administrators, and for those learning at home.
The resource kit comes with a new Educator’s Guide, designed especially to help in building the lesson plans for next year. The Educator’s Guide provides advice on how to embed the schools resource kit into the curriculum, provides checklists for teachers and administrators, and further prepares educators with sections on ‘knowing yourself, knowing your class, and knowing your school’.
Tools and lessons
To help with home learning, online tools and lessons based on the popular classroom lesson plans and activities have also been developed. These tools and lessons are aimed at making it easier for home-based learners to continue the conversation about the Stolen Generations in a home setting.
“Parents understand their children’s desire to know more about the true history of Australia,” says Steve Larkin, Chairman of The Healing Foundation. “The schools kit is a great way educate kids and we’re seeing that flow on to Mum and Dad.”
