Healing Our Way Podcast

Created in close consultation with The Healing Foundation’s Youth Reference Group, The Healing Our Way podcast explores topics relating to intergenerational trauma, racism, identity, culture and healing. The series features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and experiences, to promote truth telling and inspire listeners to learn more about the Stolen Generations.

It is crucial that young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are a key part of the conversation about how we can continue to heal as a strong community and nation. The podcasts will create a space for young people to learn about and participate in discussions about the Stolen Generations, healing and intergenerational trauma.

Episode one: Intergenerational trauma

In this episode we hear from Stolen Generations survivor Uncle Michael Welsh and his son and Stolen Generations descendant Bobby Dixon. We also hear from Aunty Leslie Franks and Blayke Tatafu on what intergenerational trauma means to them and how it affects relationships in community.


Episode Two: Identity and culture

We learn and hear from the lives and identities of Matt Doyle, Ryan Donohue Pitt, Karlie Stewart and Libby Brown. Host Jax Compton explores with guests the relationship between identities, culture and healing, discussing what identity means to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wellbeing. We learn how you can heal from all experiences growing up as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person.

Episode Three: Confronting perceptions

In this episode guests delve deep into the topics of confronting negative perceptions, stereotypes and how racism continues to affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today. Ellen Karimanovic, Luke Currie Richardson, Libby Brown and Blayke Tatufu explore the passive and undercurrent comments in everyday life connected with racism, truth telling and how to look after yourself while rising up and taking on these challenges.
