Improving wellbeing outcomes for First Nations children

Emerging Minds and The Healing Foundation are excited to launch a new set of resources to improve social and emotional wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to ensure they grow up culturally strong, healthy, happy, and safe.

This is the first time a holistic approach has brought together best-practice child development theory and First Nations culture to better understand parenting through a trauma-aware, healing-informed lens.

These resources give service providers and parents tools to understand the impacts of intergenerational trauma and reframe the narrative towards intergenerational healing for children at all stages of their development.

Improving the social and emotional wellbeing of First Nations children

Factsheets

Emerging Minds and The Healing Foundation have partnered to develop resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service providers working with children and families. The aim is to improve the mental health and social and emotional wellbeing and reframe the narrative of intergenerational healing for children and young people aged 0 – 18 years old.

Developed through a co-design process involving two knowledge circles and further research, this report brings together the expertise of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family mental health service providers and wellbeing experts to plan for developing and delivering targeted, culturally safe systems and resources. The report outlines the pathway to more effective support for the workforce to respond to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents, carers, families and communities.
