In 2014 the Healing Foundation supported organisations to run community events to celebrate and commemorate the sixth anniversary of the Apology. These events highlighted the importance of the Stolen Generations and united Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians, young and old, under the theme of Heal our Past, Build our Future, Together.
Communities held many events including community arts shows, screenings of the Apology speech, good old fashioned barbecues, bush tucker cooking, special dinners for Stolen Generations’ members, photography and essay writing competitions, and gatherings where members of the Stolen Generations shared their life stories and healing journeys.
Here is a snapshot of some of the events that took place in February 2014.
