WA School for Deaf Children

LOCATION:

(1896) opened in Moore Street, off Hutt Street, East Perth.

(1897) moved to the corner of Trafalgar Road and Kensington Street, East Perth.

(1900) moved to permanent premises on four acres of land at Buckland Hill, overlooking Cottesloe Beach.

(1907) relocated to  Mosman Park, overlooking Cottesloe Beach.

DESCRIPTION: Originally known as the WA Deaf and Dumb Institution, this facility housed children who had become state wards and some who were admitted privately. Children here were of all ages. The facility relocated a few times, to Kensington Street in 1897, and to Mosman (Buckland) Park. It was also known as the WA School for Deaf and Dumb Children and Mosman Park Hostel.
