Umbakumba Settlement

LOCATION: Umbakumba, Groote Eylandt

DESCRIPTION: Also known as Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Settlement, Gray’s Settlement and Umba-Cumba, this privately run settlement included dormitories and a school for children aged 4 to 15. Young unmarried girls were also housed here before marrying single men from the settlement.
