St Joseph’s Refuge

(1872 – 1901) Queen Street, Norwood.
(1901 – 1992) 82 Wattle Street, Fullarton.
(1992 – c. 2001) 5 Randolph Avenue, Fullarton.

DESCRIPTION: Established by the Catholic Church and run by the Sisters of St Joseph, this home provided refuge for unmarried mothers and children aged three and under. Older children went to St Joseph’s Orphanage in Largs Bay. Previously known as The Fullarton Refuge and St Joseph’s Centre, its name was changed in 2001 to Louise Place. Previously located in Adelaide, Mitcham, and Norwood.
