Mitchell River Mission

LOCATION: Mitchell river at Trubanaman; Magnificent Creek at Trubanaman

DESCRIPTION: Also known as the Trubanaman Mission, this facility was established by the Church of England. Children here were separated from their parents and housed in segregated dormitories. In 1918 it relocated to Magnificent Creek and was renamed Kowanyama. The Queensland Government began managing it in 1966.
