Estcourt House

LOCATION: Military Road, Tennyson

DESCRIPTION: Established for the elderly and children with disabilities, this home was run by the James Brown Memorial Trust. In 1931 it began accepting only children requiring convalescence. In 1978 it became part of the government run Strathmont Centre, accommodating adults with intellectual disabilities. After 1981 it also housed children with intellectual disabilities, including a number of Aboriginal children.
