Derby Hostel

LOCATION: Township Lot No. 528, Derby

DESCRIPTION: Established by the United Aborigines Mission, this was a residential childcare hostel for state wards who were attending school in Derby. Until 1963, children here were under the guardianship of the Commissioner of Native Welfare. In 1975 management was transferred to the Department for Community Welfare. The hostel remained government controlled until it closed. It was also known as Derby Mission Centre, Derby School Hostel and Amy Bethel House.
