The Healing Foundation together with more than 50 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisations form the Coalition of Peaks, a representative body that partners with Australian governments on Closing The Gap, a policy aimed at improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The new National Agreement on Closing the Gap is the first time Government has signed a national agreement that has been co designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Agreement contains four significant Priority Reforms to help Government do better to achieve improved life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They are:
- Shared decision-making
- Strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled sector
- Improving government mainstream institutions
- Ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to relevant data and information.
