Box Hill Boys’ Home 

LOCATION: 310 Elgar Road, Box Hill

DESCRIPTION: Also known as Hayville and The Howard Home for Boys, this home was set up by the Salvation Army. It initially accommodated 45 younger boys but later expanded to house boys of various ages. Aboriginal actor Jack Charles lived here in the 1940s and 1950s. Mentioned in the Bringing them Home report (1997).
