Crown Street Women’s Hospital 

LOCATION: Corner of Crown and Albion Street, Surry Hills

DESCRIPTION: Initially based in Hay Street, this public women’s and maternity hospital moved to Surry Hills in 1897. Many unmarried mothers, including Aboriginal wards of the state, spent time here. A large percentage of NSW adoptions were arranged at this hospital.
