The truth for future generations
Now more than ever, it is integral that future generations know the truth of our history and the experience of Stolen Generations survivors to understand the impact it still has on communities today.
That is why we have expanded our Stolen Generations Resource Kit for Teachers and Students to ensure their voices are heard.
Educators around the country can access the updated version of the kit, which now includes lesson plans for years 10 – 12, ensuring students at every age and in every classroom can enhance their knowledge of Australia’s Stolen Generations history.
Stolen Generations Resource kit ‘a way forward for our people’
This teaching resource was developed to introduce students from Foundation to Year 12 to the firsthand experiences of Stolen Generations survivors, making it easy for school communities to start the conversation about the lasting impact and inform classroom discussions using facts, real examples and stories from survivors.
“This kit is a way forward for our people. Having our true history taught across Australia will equip our future leaders with the correct knowledge to be able to right the wrongs of the past.
Young Australians are thirsty for this knowledge and for me as an Elder and a Stolen Generations survivor – it’s important for me to continue sharing my knowledge with the next generations so that the things that happened to me, never happen again.” Uncle David Wragge, Wakka Wakka man.
Aligned to version 9 of the Australian curriculum, the kit was developed alongside Stolen Generations survivors, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous teachers, parents, early childhood specialists and curriculum writers.
First Nations perspectives for 2024 classrooms
The intention is to build First Nations perspectives into your classroom planning for 2024, and this FREE downloadable resource will assist you to do that in a culturally safe, age–appropriate way.
The Healing Foundation has listened to educators about what matters to them as we updated the Kit, developing new resources including Plug-n-play PowerPoints and a detailed Educator Guide, aimed at building confidence to feel prepared to teach content educators can find challenging.
Schools Kit celebrated at Marsden High
The updated kit was launched at Marsden State High School on 6th October, with survivors, students, educators and First Nations community members coming together to celebrate culture, share stories and discuss the importance of truth-telling in our classrooms.
