$200k grants program launched for Stolen Generations truth-telling projects

A new partnership is set to honour and preserve the stories of Stolen Generations survivors and descendants through community broadcasting platforms.

The Stolen Generations Truth Telling grants offer a $200k funding pool for storytelling collaborations between survivors, descendants and community broadcasters.

“Community broadcasting is at the heart of communities across the country, especially First Nations broadcasters” says Jo Curtin, CEO of Community Broadcasting Foundation.

“As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Bringing them home report, preserving the stories of Stolen Generations survivors and descendants is more important than ever,” says Shannan Dodson (Yawuru), CEO of The Healing Foundation.

“Survivors have told us how important it is to share their stories — for their own healing, and for their families and communities. Our 'From Sorry to Action' national plan highlights the need for truth-telling and education so all Australians understand the ongoing impact of forced removal.

These grants are a unique opportunity for community broadcasters to help preserve these stories for future generations,” says Dodson.

Community Broadcasting Foundation and The Healing Foundation have opened applications for the Stolen Generations Truth Telling grants. Interested First Nations storytellers are encouraged to get started on collaborations with their local community broadcaster now.

“The Stolen Generations Truth Telling grants are an opportunity for community broadcasters to listen to, support and amplify survivors and descendants of the Stolen Generations” says Curtin.

“First Nations broadcasters, journalists and creatives across the country are powerful storytellers - this grant gives them the opportunity to contribute their skills to the Truth Telling process. Whether it’s radio, television or digital media projects, Community Broadcasting Foundation is excited to see what collaborations are made possible by this partnership.”
