Access to family history records, National Redress Scheme numbers, the Western Australian Redress Scheme and an ongoing commitment to addressing survivor needs were on the agenda at the National Link-Up leadership meeting in October 2025.

Representatives from seven of the eight Link-Up's from across Australia gathered, fostering valuable connections across the community. The event sparked lively discussions about ongoing Link-Up efforts across Australia, highlighting the passion and commitment to driving positive change and potential collaborations. Leaders shared insights and explored  strategies for the future.

Additional funding and resources are critical to continue and expand this vital work to support the calls within the Bringing them home report and achieve justice for survivors.

National Redress Scheme applications exceeded expectations

Attendees heard the latest information about the National Redress Scheme. Queensland has emerged as the state with the highest number of applications. Applications have far exceeded expectations and underscored the urgent need for comprehensive support services across Queensland.

Knowmore Legal shared an update on their role in helping survivors navigate the complex application process, ensuring applicants receive the necessary legal support to seek justice.

Ongoing spports for records and redress reaffirmed

The AIATSIS Family History Team reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating access to vital family history records, a service invaluable for many families seeking to piece together their histories.

In Western Australia, the WA Stolen Generations Redress Scheme is set to begin, and will be open to applications for three years, with a total allocation of $85,000 per Survivor. Priority will be given based on health status and the needs of survivors, ensuring that those most in need receive support first.

Collaboration: A key to a successful future

The meeting featured an update from The Healing Foundation CEO Shannan Dodson, who urged all Link-Ups and Stolen Generations organisations to actively engage and collaborate with each other and the importance of unity and collaboration in driving impactful change within the community. Attendees expressed their continued commitment to addressing the needs of survivors and their descendants.
